Acne and scarring
Acne is a common but debilitating skin condition which affects many people. People tend to think of acne as a problem that affects teenagers, but in actual fact it is common in many young adults. Although not serious or life-threatening, acne often results in a huge psychological burden on sufferers. Acne is most common on the face, but can also effect the neck, shoulders and back.
Factors that that are known to contribute to acne include the production of sebum (skin oil) which can block the pores of the gland, as well as the production of a type of skin bacteria called Propionibacterium acnes. This leads to a cycle of blocked pores, followed by inflammation of the skin’s oil glands which results in visible scarring.
Acne treatment at Bloom Clinic Milton Keynes:
Our approach to the treatment of acne is sympathetic to each individual case. We offer both medical treatment and cosmetic treatment for acne, and Dr Boye will advise on the best course of action for each case.
Medical treatment of acne involves the use of prescription products to reduce the oil production and antibiotics to reduce infection and inflammation. Cosmetic treatment includes procedures to reduce pigmentation and the use of skin peels or microneedling to refresh the skin.
Acne scar treatment:
Severe or reoccurring cases of acne can result in scarring, which can cause huge psychological distress, social awkwardness and anxiety. Dr Boye uses a technique called subcision to lift the acne scar up and away from the underlying tissues and the dermal fillers or fat (depending on individual case) is then injected at the base of the scar to reduce the risk of it recurring. This very effective treatment for acne has achieved high satisfaction amongst clients.
