What is a Gold thread lift?
The gold thread procedure is a low-trauma, highly effective technique for improving the quality, firmness and elasticity of the skin. During the threading procedure, medical-grade gold threads are inserted under the skin to regenerate the area. The invisible gold wires give both mechanical support and trigger production of collagen and elastin fibres around the thread. New blood vessels appear in the area and the skin becomes supple, firmer and thicker, with better blood supply. The thicker skin is more elastic, which means it retracts better after treatment like liposuction, so we often recommend a gold thread lift to patients having these treatments.
The technique has been in use in the UK since the 1970s, although the use of pure gold as an implant goes all the way back to ancient Egyptian times over 5000 years ago. The use of medically pure, inert gold thread makes the procedure far safer than when carried out using the normal synthetic thread; gold will also not rust or change once it is inserted meaning that there is far less risk of infection.
Where can gold filaments be used?
Gold filaments can be used where the skin has lost its firmness but is not yet loose, so in areas such as the face, neck, décolletage area, hands, buttocks and tummy. The golden thread face lift is very popular, with the technique sometimes referred to as a ‘solid gold facial’, but the technique is effective in many areas where skin is beginning to lose elasticity. These very fine 24-carat gold threads are implanted across the lines or wrinkles being addressed, so that they support and lift the skin.
How is the treatment carried out?
Under local anaesthetic, Dr Boye uses 24-carat gold filaments in a ‘net-like’ pattern to create a mesh which is inserted just under the skin’s surface. The gold wire remains under the skin where it encourages the skin to produce extra collagen to form a coating on the wire. The new tissue then goes on to improve the appearance of the skin by increasing the blood to the areas of mesh. The threads are invisible and do not leave any external scarring.
What is the recovery time?
The gold threading procedure is carried out as an out-patient treatment, meaning you can return home within a few hours and be back to work and normal life in no time. The procedure is minimally invasive, and although there may be some initial bruising or swelling, these will settle down and subside within a couple of weeks.
How long do the results last?
It will take up to 3-6 months to see the best results and for the skin to re-settle. The long term effects of this treatment can last up to 5-10 years by returning some of the skin’s former elasticity. We recommend having a maintenance treatment every 3-5 years, which will boost the effect of the original treatment.
How much does gold thread treatment cost?
Prices are dependent on your individual requirements, and start from £2,200. At an initial consultation with Dr Boye at Bloom Clinic, you can discuss the extent and cost of the golden thread work which you will require.
